EQP2 Excursion is one light electric plane

Sometime, in the year 2013, when we have realized that that whole 2012 end-of-the-world thing was just another Y2K, we will (hopefully) see the EQP2 Excursion.

The Excursion is a Light Sport Aircraft (LST) that has enough space for two people and baggage. You may note that it has two propellers on its tail, but what you don’t know is that is completely electrical. Yeah, there is no expensive jet fuel in this thing.

The plane itself is less than 20 feet long, and can fly at speeds of 250 miles per hour for about 1,265 miles on a single charge.

It kind of reminds me of this plane that the Roger Moore James Bond flew in Octopussy. It was during the opening part of the film that pretty much has nothing to do with the rest of the film. As I recall, Bond’s joke before the sexy credits was pulling into a gas station with his mini-plane and saying “fill ‘er up”. I suppose he would probably say “charge it up” if he was flying the EQP2.

I suppose I will look forward to seeing this plane in the next three years, assuming the designers keep to their timetable. Of course, they don’t know exactly what will power this aircraft as yet.
